5 Tips for Finding the Perfect Shoes

Finding the perfect pair of shoes for your child is not always easy. But with knowledge and expert advice, you can navigate the world of children's footwear with ease. So let's explore the five tips finding the perfect shoes.

  1. Shoes Should Fit Like a Glove (But for Feet): The age-old struggle of "too tight" versus "too loose." Finding that fit is crucial for your child's comfort and foot health. Shoes that are too tight can cause discomfort and even inhibit proper growth, while shoes that are too loose can lead to blisters, corns, crushed toes, crows toes, unbalanced gait and worse, tripping hazards.

The aim is to make sure there is enough room at the front of the shoes making sure that your toes can wiggle. And enough room across the bridge of the foot and space to allow for the foot to expand when the feet become hot.

2. Get Your Child's Feet Measured: Taking your child to get their feet measured by a professional ensures that you're starting off on the right foot. Shoe sizes can vary between brands and styles, so having an accurate measurement can save you from the hassle of returns and exchanges. If you are unable to visit our shop then please use the chart provided (measuring chart) to help you with the appropriate sizes.

3. Stick to the Standard Width: When it comes to shoe width, there's no one-size-fits-all solution. However, a good rule of thumb is to leave about a thumb's width of space between the end of the longest toe and the tip of the shoe. This allows for natural movement without crushing those toes.

4. Heels Should Stay Put: Have you ever watched your child walk in a pair of shoes, only to notice their heels slipping with every step? Make sure the heels of your child's shoes fit snugly without any slipping forward or back. This ensures proper support and prevents blisters irritation and a unbalanced gait.

5. Why Not To Buy Shoes Too Big:  The temptation of buying shoes a size too big to "grow into"  may seem like a savvy move to save money but actually  can do more harm than good. Oversized shoes can affect your child's gait and posture. Shoes fitted in the correct size will have the sufficient room for growth.  So, resist the urge to buy bigger shoes and opt for a size that fits just right.
